Crying In A Storm  performed by Emy Jackson & The Smashmen  1966

60's beat with female vocals (english) and doublepicked & reverbed guitar sound. this song must've been a hit in the 60s because even the dreaded Spotnicks (sweden) have covered it.

Our Day Will Come  performed by Roger Nichols Trio  1966
Recommended by masayo [profile]

This is a cover song of a famous tune by Ruby & the Romantics but it's a totally different type of music from the original. Its orchestration and chorus are outstanding and dreamy. Though Roger Nichols is famous now among Japanese pops fan, I don't think many people know him outside Japan. So I want more people to know his tremendous works!!

29 May 02 ·scrubbles: You're right, this is an excellent arrangement of this song. Where the original was yearning and romantic, this one is bright and perky. A gem!
10 Feb 03 ·konsu: Yeah! Also check out the Chris Montez version with the same kind of "perky" quality!
Pushing The Car  performed by Krzysztof Komeda  1966

The main theme of Cul-De-Sac. Komeda's off-kilter jazz sensibility was really perfectly suited to Polanski's absurdist comedy. Like many of the best film scores, it seems absolutely essential to the film. If you like Komeda's style, this track really delivers.

I Can't Walk Roads Of Anger  performed by Bob Lind  1966

A great folk-rock song from the man who had a hit with the sometimes-derided (but, let's face it, excellent) "Elusive Butterfly" in 1966. This one is even janglier, and the tension builds up in each verse then gets released in the chorus (thanks to the drums). Lind's lyrics were always full of adjectives and imagery, maybe over-showy to some, and that's the case here too, but if you like mid-'60s folk-rock then you gotta hear this!

It'll Never Happen Again  performed by Tim Hardin  1966

This wonderful record is the closest I've heard to an American Nick Drake. Very short and jazzy, acoustic guitar, vibraphone, impeccable white soul vocals... what more do you need? Good if you like Tim Buckley. That someone could be this good on their debut album is little short of incredible. Heroin victim Hardin's second album is even better.
