Try To See It My Way  performed by Little Peggy March  1966
Recommended by bobbyspacetroup [profile]

A great (neglected?) Bacharach & David song. There are three other versions by Rick Nelson & Joannie Sommers from the "On The Flipside" ABC TV special soundtrack. Though i like how it plays as a duet between Nelson and Sommers, Peggy March's vocals are ultimately the strongest. Hence, this is my favorite version. Hey, does anybody know of any other recordings of this song?

21 Jun 02 ·scrubbles: You're right, I love this little gem. Peggy March's voice is sexy, strong and way beyond her earlier girl groupy stuff. The arrangement is plush and understated, very "Bacharach". Thanks for writing about this.
midsummer night's scene  performed by john's children  1966

ever heard of marc bolan? check this out! toured with the who and got thrown off due to a havoc in germany. a psychedelic pop song of highest class.

from the single midsummer night's scene
available on CD - smashed blocked (get back)

23 Dec 05 ·n-jeff: Its not my favourite of their songs, but one of the few where you can hear Bolan, I don't think he actually did that much with them. They play a funny part in Simon Napier-Bells autobiography "you don't have to say you love me". Recommended for its high trash content and infallible ego.
i'm going home  performed by the sonics  1966

the sonics was with the wailers the roughest guys around in the seattle area (well maybe the north west!). this recording wasn't their first nor their last and if someone else would choose a sonics song he/she would not pick this one (they'd pick strychnine/psycho/cinderella which are great songs). i just can imagine what this song sounded like live...

from introducing the sonics (jerden jrl 7007), available on CD (sundazed)

save my soul  performed by wimple winch  1966

a song that sounds like a state of mind. a 14 hour technicolour dream until the chorus. i love the guitar solo too. freakbeat mania!

from the single save my soul (fontana tf 718)
available on CD - nuggets ii (rhino)

Midnight Swim  performed by Al Caiola  1966

I love the sweeping introduction of this track so much that I would almost recommend it based on that alone. A brass flourish leads into a really cool, jerky beat. It continues with nice multitracked guitars that produce a harpsichord-like effect. Very cool.

from Tuff Guitar (United Artists UAL 3389)
