In Search of England  performed by Barclay James Harvest  1978
Recommended by Mike [profile]

One of the most appealing of the songs by Woolly Wolstenholme, the band's keyboard player until he left in 1979, and who sadly committed suicide on 13 December 2010.

Woolly's songs, the best-known of which are examples of the often grandiose style which has since become known as "symphonic prog", always stood out from those of his band-mates for their harmonic interest and textural subtlety.

Come Closer  performed by Miles Kane   2010
Recommended by geezer [profile]

Something new from pops new boy wonder ,former Rascal and Last Shadow Puppeteer Kane trawls through pops back pages to define the sound of NOW!.
Brit pop arrogance with Bolan esque flirtations and a smattering of David Essex combine to forge a great fresh poppy sound that will undoubtedly have a limited shelf life but for the rest of the summer this will be the album to have

from Colour of the Trap, available on CD

The Madman Running Through the Fields   performed by Dantalions Chariot  1967
Recommended by geezer [profile]

Former beat exponent Zoot Money quickly coming to terms with the arrival of psychedelia with almost soul selling precision .The bands only single has backward cymbals, flutes and lysergic lyrics but doesnt go the way of its peers of the time avoiding lightweight whimsy and stodgy jamming .In amongst these stellar components is a brilliant melodic pop song that gives a lesson in how to jump on a bandwagon without falling off.Co written by Andy summers later of The Police and if you know Synchronicity 2 by this band then "Madman" is where that may have come from

from Chariot Rising
available on CD - Chariot Rising

Just by saying the name of the band some bells should ring. I really like the song, has a very catchy beat and some good lyrics as well. Should wacth the performance of the song in Glasgow so you know what I mean.
