All God’s Creatures  performed by Jason Falkner  1998
Composed by Jason Falkner

heavy guitar, a "liberace-esque" piano break, un-heavy lyrics. the guitar MAKES this song. jason can play...

from Can You Still Feel? (Elektra)

The Angel’s Share  performed by Ted Leo & the Pharmacists  2004
Composed by Ted Leo

relentlessly catchy powerful guitar-based stomping number. critical of the unelected regime in Washington USA without being didactic in ANY WAY! this is a 'get up, get moving' kinda song. very bouncy. impossible not to move when listening to it. i cannot get enough of this track... (album comes out October 2004)

from Shake the Sheets (Lookout Records)

12 Inch 3 Speed Oscillating Fan  performed by Red Meat
Composed by Red Meat

country shuffle with fiddles and down-home vocal harmony. short humorous track about summertime heat. catchy, easily repeatable without getting bored/sick of. near the top of my current favorites playlist and has been for weeks. it's available online at dmusic and FREE. if u aint heard it and like broad yourself a favor and download it now. u won't be disappointed. their other tracks are as good!

I Don’t Wanna Have A Nice Day  performed by Greg Brown
Composed by Greg Brown

guitarist and songwriter greg brown tells us how he feels when someone says 'haveAniceDay'. midtempo acoustic number with gruff bassy vocals. very good for themed comps or person-specific mixtapes. from an album called The Live One and various MPR/NPR performances at their archives. repeat listening assured.

from The Live One (Red House Records)

Upside Down  performed by Tori Amos  1991
Composed by Tori Amos

plaintive introspective personal rumblings. her lyrics, at least on the first disc Little Earthquakes, were like stumbling across someone's open diary. from the B-Side of the Silent All These Years cassette single that i wore out on the bus rides to junior high and high school. many other tori songs are incredible. this one cemented her in my psyche long before Under The Pink ever came out.

from Little Earthquakes (Atlantic)

14 Sep 04 ·FlyingDutchman1971: Indeed a great track... I would have worn out a cassette single listening to it, luckily it was a b-side on the CD single for 'Winter'.
