Talking Scarlet  performed by Prefab Sprout  1985

A song as pretty and witty as any of their better-known numbers, this also has a little more propulsion than many of those. I'm also very fond of the album it's on, 1985's "Protest Songs", which was unreleased until 1989 and wasn't one of the band's biggest sellers when the record company eventually released it after "From Langley Park to Memphis".

Strength to Dream  performed by Propaganda  1985

The final track from their superb album "A Secret Wish". Instrumental, apart from a spoken lyric at the end, this reworking of the opening track of the album uses both real strings and synths in combination with some catchy, moody chords to create real atmosphere.

You are the one  performed by Mike + the Mechanics  1985

Just a great soppy synthy song. Nice chords. The lyrics are pretty good in a dreamy, soppy way. I heard it for the first time yesterday. I probably wouldn't have liked it much in 1985.

No-one seems to be certain which of two guest singers performed the lead vocal, but it certainly sounds nothing like Paul Carrack or the late Paul Young, who were to become the band's usual vocalists.
