Strawberryletter 23  performed by Shuggie Otis  1974

Absolutely stunning track. If you like music at all you must have this.

from Inspiration Information, available on CD

02 Oct 03 ·tinks: it is a great song, even if it was in a cereal commercial. and i think i like the brothers johnson's hit cover of it just as much as the original.
15 Mar 04 ·olli: hey, don't forget aht uh mi hed. it's one of the two absolutely fantastic songs on the album. too bad his comeback flopped, i think the reissue of inpiration information was too hyped, those who were expecting "THE LOST GENIUS OF SOUL" were disappointed... still, i think his work is pretty interesting. its worth checking out some of the recordings made by his father johnny otis, too. pretty good stuff.
A Dream Goes On Forever  performed by Todd Rundgren  1974

I was looking up and down the list and wondered "why wasnt there any Todd Rundgren"? This is one of my all-time favorites from him at his creative peak. Although sometimes his ego and additudes about the music business (and fans) gets in the way of me enjoying his music, on this track he keeps his ego in check and uses his melodic (and commercial) smarts to make this one of this greatest ballads.

This is just an wonderful track, along with a amazing Stevie Wonder meets Brian Wilson all synth production. Also check the solo piano version on his "Back to The Bars" 2-CD set.

from Todd (Bearsville, reissued by Rhino)
available on CD - Todd, also on The Best Of Todd Rundgren (Rhino)

Claudine (Instrumental Theme)  performed by Gladys Knight/Curtis Mayfield  1974

What a wonderful gem of a song. It gives a "Shaft" type of feel with an fresh air feel to it. A great underated masterpiece written by the late great Curtis Mayfield for this movie. Apparently this is a forgotten track on this album and overshadowed by the sublime on and on. Break this song out during a party and you become the definition of hip. Enjoy!

available on CD - Claudine (Motion Picture Soundtrack) (Capitol)

When Will I Come Home To You  performed by Diana Ross  1974

This is a 1974 album track on the UK album Last Time I Saw Him. Why this wonderful ballad was never issued as a single or included on a 'ballads' album is beyond me. Wonderful stuff.

from Last Time I Saw Him (Motown)

Agitated  performed by Die Electric Eels  1974

One of the greatest rock songs ever recorded. Loud, distorted, strangely tuneful and tuneless at the same time. An exhilerating rush of pure energy without being remotely fast.

The superior single version also has the mighty Nick Knox on drums. And I don't think is on the cd. But it is on the LP.

from Its a 7 inch single (Rough Trade)
available on CD - The eyeball of hell (scat)
