Originally sort of a mellow song, here is someone really belting it out. With a swinging big band, Kim, (who I've thought of as a soul singer mainly)
really rocks.
This beautiful cover of the Beatles song was buried on a b-side in the UK in 1966,it deserved to have been a big hit for Cilla. Cilla's treatment and George Martin's arrangement make this essential listening.
available on CD - The Essential Cilla Black (EMI)
22 Apr 04 ·olli: Cilla Black is definetively one of my favourite performers of Lennon/mccartne- related material. Her voice is just incredibly right for this style of music..great stuff.
Lots of Cilla's earlier material was top quality, this Lennon/McCartney song (never actually recorded by the Fabs) knocked me out when I first heard it on my cousin's Dansette in 1964. Spooky melody which almost strays into jazz territory in the instrumental break. Sophisticated pop of the highest order.
A lovely version of this Beatles song which appeared on a 1969 album by Cilla. When it appeared on a compilation CD recently Q maga in the UK raved about it.
