29 Jan 04 ·delicado: Dionne gets my vote! 28 Feb 04 ·FlyingDutchman1971: Dionne's rendition of this song is indeed excellent, however my vote would have to go to Dusty Springfield's recording. Dusty sings this song with more desperation in her voice. 24 Dec 04 ·BlueEyedYe-Ye: It's very difficult for me to choose between the two - the White Stripes version is pure horror though. Not in a good way...
this is motown at it's best in my opinion. i bought the album "a cellarful OF MOTOWN!" when it was released in 2002. however i just re-discovered it a couple of weeks ago when i was cleaning. the track was (as it say in the booklet) originally assigned to the supremes. great stuff!
available on CD - a cellarful of motown! (motown/universal)
05 Feb 04 ·scrubbles: Agreed. I love the undercurrent of dread in this song. Why it remained in the Motown vaults is a mystery to me.
due to the cheapest swedish lager and estonian vodka i missed most of the bands i wanted to see at rasslebygd, emmaboda, sweden (formerly known as indieboda). me going to the festival was a mistake from the beginning, i hadn't been to a festival since the summer of 2001 and i immediately felt very old. however, i managed to watch franke. this song is great, filled with anguish and dirty guitarshrieks a la jesus and mary chain.
i was watching an mtv show where johan renck (aka stakka bo) was showing his fav videos. i don't remember anyone of them except the last one which was bobby conn's 'never get ahead'. bizarre lyrics and nice strings makes this little number a nice tune.
25 Mar 04 ·masterkil: compare this song with i want you back from the jacksons five, Do you find similar tunes? 26 Mar 04 ·shaka_klaus: yeah, i thought that one was pretty obvious. however i could have mentioned it. i think it's a nice theft! ;-) 28 Jun 04 ·Sepp: bizarre lyrics. ??? ... so please help me. i couldnt get much from the lyrics. maybe because of the fucking cool violin. i searched the internet to find the lyrics but didnt get it. maybe you could help me with it.
thanks
