Mi Querido Amor (My Cherie Amour)  performed by Cristian Castro  1994
Recommended by RCA76 [profile]

I love this Spanish version of the Stevie Wonder classic because it the new instrumentation. It is still very Stevie Wonder with a new, latin flair. The vocals are absolutely amazing, this guy can really sing.

from El Camino Del Alma (Fonovisa SPCD - 0503), available on CD

Hannah Jane  performed by Hootie & The Blowfish  1994

Off the wall lyrics but incredibly fine singing and the arrangements are out of this world. Whatever happened to this fine band?

available on CD - Cracked Rear View (Atlantic)

Girlfriend  performed by Erics Trip  1994
Recommended by sardonicsmile [profile]

rick white is a prolific songwriter, whether with eric's trip, or his more recent project elevator. 'girlfriend' in particular characterises the sound with acoustic guitar up front, fuzz guitar in the background and floating away vocal. eric's trip came out of the so-called halifax pop explosion of the early 90s, and their name comes from the sonic youth song. but their sound is a lot more lo-fi and home recorded, guitars and sounds popping out of strange places in the mix.

from Forever Again (Sub Pop)

Bogusflow  performed by Beck  1994
Recommended by Sulku [profile]

Very relaxed. And unpolished (Beck even starts laughing near the end.)

Reaching out from Here  performed by The Boo Radleys  1994
Recommended by geezer [profile]

A Band doomed by the vagueries of fashion ,too late for the Madchester boom and too early for Britpop, despite consistantly great records like this ,a melancholy ,sixties influenced piece of perfect pop, never quite breaking into glee but a memorable chorus and a fine economic restrained pop song.A band worth looking back on in small doses

from Wake Up!, available on CD
