100,000 Fireflies  performed by The Magnetic Fields  1990
Composed by Stephin Merrit

Possibly one of the greatest pop songs I've heard. A minimal arrangement of synth bells and piano over a distorted & looped drum beat.

from Distant Plastic Trees

(Here We Go Round) The Lemon Tree  performed by The Move  1968
Composed by Roy Wood

A wonderful 60's pop song. Dandy, full of little bell sounds and also has diminished chords.

from Move

Xanadu  performed by Electric Light Orchestra featuring Olivia Newton-John  1980
Composed by Jeff Lynne

Arguably one of the greatest pop songs of all time. The title song from the 40's meets 80's musical film disaster, Xanadu. The Electric Light Orchestra provided half of the soundtrack (the only part really worth listening to) and it's really good.

from Xanadu

The Owls Go  performed by Architecture in Helsinki  2004
Composed by Architecture in Helsinki

A shizo-minimalist arrangement that goes back and forth between synths, horns, bubbles, and shouts of children. For fans of this type of music.

from Fingers Crossed

Ruby Dont Take Your Love to Town  performed by Kenny Rogers & The First Edition  1969
Composed by Mel Tillis

Kenny Rogers provides quite the haunting lead vocal on this track. The jaunty drums and choir vocals only enhance the creepiness.

from Ruby Don't Take Your Love to Town
