Africa  performed by Shelly Manne  1968
Recommended by bobbyspacetroup [profile]

For those who like Mike Simpson's "Jungle Odyssey," Nino Nardini and Roger Roger's "Jungle Obsession," and Henry Mancini's "Hatari," I would recommend Manne's entire "Daktari" LP. Prime late '60s Exotica Africana.

from Daktari (Atlantic SD 8157)

Roller Girl  performed by Anna Karina  1968
Recommended by tinks [profile]

French girlie pop of the sort that only Serge was capable of! This is taken from the soundtrack to a television comedy special starring Gainsbourg, Jean-Claude Brialy & Anna Karina, who prior to this had of course been Jean-Luc Godard's primary actress and wife (reportedly, her dalliances with Mssr. Gainsbourg played a pivotal role in the dissolution of their marriage). Rah-rah-rah-roller gairl!

from Anna (Philips), available on CD (Philips France)

18 Oct 02 ·LetFreedomHappen: What a great song! I was about to recommend it myself. I love her film work with Godard, and was way excited to find out that she sang stuff too. Especially Gainsbourg stuff. This is one of my favorites. How cool, how cool.
Superlungs My Supergirl  performed by Donovan  1968
Recommended by tinks [profile]

"She's only 14 but she knows how to draw!" I can't help but think this song isn't about what it sounds like. A great psychy dancer from Donovan's 'rockier' period.

from Barabajagal, available on CD (Epic)

der computer #3  performed by france gall  1968

a very futuristic song sung in german by the french chanteuse france gall. you have to dig the opening 'computer' vocals.

teenie weenie boppie  performed by france gall  1968

i'm unsure about the year this was recorded but it's a great french pop song. apparently, france is singing about lsd. 'tee-nie wee-nie bopp-ie'is rather infectious.

26 Apr 01 ·tinks: Yeah, I love this track. It was written by Serge Gainsbourg and recorded in 1967. It was released on the "1968" LP, which is available on CD as a French import. Also includes the great song "Made in France".
02 May 01 ·tinks: i should also mention that the song isn't really about lsd...it's not really *about* anything. kinda like seinfeld. she just mentions it in there.
28 May 01 ·daidai: yeh, i really wasn't too sure about this. i was merely going off of information from a source. ^.^
