Tracy Had a Hard Day Sunday  performed by West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band  1967
Recommended by songs-I-love [profile]

One beautifully-constructed, jazz-flavoured number.
Its jazzy chords and conga rhythm are complemented by a set of psychedelic lyrics about Tracy who "had a hard day Sunday" for "she had to be herself and no one else". Real ear-candy for me. One of the best (mildly) psychedelic tracks out there, ever.

Don’t Make Waves  performed by Vic Mizzy & Orchestra  1967
Recommended by singjohn [profile]

A swingin' 60's soundtrack gem for the 1967 movie of the same name. Mizzy is probably most famous for his theme for the Addam's Family (snap, snap). "Waves" just cooks from start to finish! A freakbeat bass and blaring horn section do a wild frug while swirling strings hover above. I can't sit still when I hear this song!

Ive Got Something On My Mind  performed by The Left Banke  1967
Recommended by konsu [profile]

There really isn't a perfect recommendation for this group, all their songs are fantastic! This one just suits my fancy as of now,and has that great "do the monkey" kind of go-go beat that's just plain infectious. This group was capable of tons of emotion, and their influence can be heard a lot in today's indie pop.Harpsichords abound, and their entire works are available on one CD, and it'll never let you down...

Nem Vem Que No Tem  performed by Wilson Simonal  1967
Recommended by Auriane [profile]

Wilson Simonal's mix of Brazilian soft pop and soul cause him to be a pivotal figure in the growth of the "Black Rio" funk scene. This track, classed as one of Brazil's "soul standards" bounces along with a laid back groove, brass and cheekiness.

13 May 03 ·delicado: Brilliant track! Funnily enough, I just put this on a compilation last weekend. While I like this version best, there are also interesting versions in French (Brigette Bardot) and Italian (Mina).
29 Aug 06 ·clmarcel: um grande cantor! infelizmente foi injustiado e morreu sem ter o reconhecimento merecido! uma pena!
